ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 reached lunar orbit on Saturday evening (05-08-2023). The spacecraft had already overcome the pull of Earth's gravity. After 22 days of launch, it entered the Moon's gravitational pull. However, there is still a long way to go to reach the main destination. Chandrayaan-3 will have to pass several tough tests before touching the lunar soil.
"ISRO" issued a statement after the successful launch of 'Chandrayaan-3' into lunar orbit on Saturday. It said that at 7.12 pm, the process of putting the spacecraft into lunar orbit began. It was successfully done in a total of 1835 seconds of effort. 'Chandrayaan-3' is currently in a 164 km X 18074 km orbit under the Moon's gravitational pull.
why Chandrayaan-3 has to slow down
This time, 'Chandrayaan-3' will orbit around the moon with the help of its gravitational pull. Gradually his speed will decrease. The Moon's gravitational force is six times less than Earth's. That is why Chandrayaan-3 has to slow down.
As 'Chandrayaan-3' remained under Earth's gravity, its orbit and speed were gradually increased. The spacecraft overcomes the Earth's gravity by crossing five stages of orbit. But in the 'country' of the moon, the process is somewhat reversed. This time, as the speed decreases in one direction, 'Chandrayaan-3' will reach a smaller orbit step by step in the other direction. In this case too, ISRO's plan includes five orbit change processes.
Will ISRO's Chandrayaan taste success in its third mission?
At 2:35 p.m. on July 14, 'Chandrayaan-3' was successfully launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center's launch pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. He has covered two-thirds of the total journey so far. Tough tests await the rest of the way. Will ISRO's Chandrayaan taste success in its third mission?
This is the third of ISRO's unmanned missions to the Moon. The Indian agency had successfully sent the Chandrayaan into the moon's orbit twice before. Once their spacecraft entered the orbit of Mars. The movement of Chandrayaan-3 is being controlled from the Bangalore office. History will be made only if the process of touching the soil of the moon is successful. Hello! This is #Chandrayaan3 with a special update. I want to let everyone know that it has been an amazing journey for me so far and now I am going to enter the Lunar Orbit today (August 5, 2023) at around 19:00 hrs IST. To know where I am and what I'm doing, stay tuned!#ISRO… pic.twitter.com/3AJ8xq1xFF
