Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam
The place of Zakat is after faith and salat in Islam. Almighty Allah has made Zakat obligatory to increase the economic well-being of the people of the world. Zakat has been discussed in 32 places in the Holy Quran. If Zakat is not given, wealth accumulates only among the rich. As a result, economic disaster occurs in the society, and the rich and usurers absorb the blood of the society like leeches, enlarge themselves, and make the society bloodless.
Therefore, the dire consequences of not paying Zakat have been mentioned in the Holy Quran and Sahih Hadith.Narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA): He said, Rasulullah (SAW) said, "Every owner of gold and silver who does not pay his right (Zakat), many pages will be prepared for him on the Day of Resurrection, and they will be heated in the fire of Hell. His ribs will be scarred on his forehead and back. Whenever it becomes cold, it will be heated (his punishment will continue) on that day, which will be equal to fifty thousand years. This condition will continue until all slaves are judged. Then he will make his way either to paradise or hell.
Consequences of not paying Zakat in Islam
It was asked, O Messenger of God (pbuh)! What about camels? He said, The owner of a camel will not claim his right. And among her rights, milking her milk on the date of drinking water and donating it to others is also a right. When the Day of Resurrection comes, he will be overthrown in a wide open field, and all his camels, which do not lose a single calf, will completely trample him with their razors and bite them with their mouths.
Thus, The last team will come when his first team crosses again. This will be done in a day that will be equal to fifty thousand years, until the judgment between the servants of Allah is completed. Then he will see his way to heaven or hell.
It was asked, O Messenger of God (pbuh)! What about cows and goats? He said, "Every cow and goat owner who does not pay his right (Zakat) will be cast down on a dhudu field on the Day of Resurrection, and all his cows and goats will goad him with horns and trample him with razors. But on that day, not one of his cows or goats will be bent, hornless, or broken, and he will not lose a single cow or goat.
Whenever his first team crosses, the last team will arrive. On that day, the number of days will be equal to fifty thousand years. Until the judgment of the servants of Allah is over, he will find his way either to paradise or to hell.
Then it was asked, O Messenger of God (pbuh)! What about horses? He said, There are three types of horses. A horse is a cause of sin for some, a cover for some, and a reward for others.
- (1) A horse that causes sin to its owner is the horse of a person who has kept it for the purpose of public pride and enmity towards Muslims.
- (2) A horse that is a covering for its owner is the horse of one who has brought it up in the way of Allah and has not forgotten about it and the rights of Allah on its back. This horse is a cover for his dignity. And
- (3) A horse that is a cause of reward for its owner is the horse of a person who kept it in a pasture or a grass garden only for the protection of the land of Muslims in the way of Allah. Then whatever his horse eats in the pasture or garden, that amount will be written as good for him, and the amount of his dung and urine will also be written as good. If it breaks its rope and wanders even a field or two, its footprints and the amount of dung will be recorded. Moreover, if his owner takes him to the bank of a river, and it is a river, he drinks water, but the owner does not want him to drink water.
However, that amount of water will be written for him.It was asked, O Messenger of God (pbuh)! What about the donkey? He said: Regarding the donkey, only this unique and comprehensive verse was revealed to me: 'Whoever does an atom's worth of good deeds, he will see it on that day, and whoever does an atom's worth of evil deeds, he will also see it'
(Zilal 99/7-8; Muslim, Mishkat Ha/1773).
