The story of Hazrat Abu Dharr Giffari (RA) and a young man, Killing instead of killing

One day, two men of Madinah dragged a young man to the court of Hazrat Umar (RA), the ruler of half the world. They then initiated legal action, claiming that "This young guy killed our father. We want justice."

Ameerul Mu'minin Caliph Hazrat Umar (RA) asked the young man about the claims made against him. The young man said, "Their claim is absolutely true." Saying this, the young man began to describe his undesired incident.

He said, "I sat down under the shade of a palm tree to rest since I was fatigued. I soon fell asleep with a tired body. I woke up to find that my only favorite vehicle, the camel, was not around. I went some distance to look for it, but it was dead. It was near their father. Who killed my camel by stone-throwing him for invading his garden? Because of this, I suddenly got angry, and while arguing with their father, at one point I hit him on the head with a stone, and he died on the spot. Which happened quite unexpectedly. I apologize for that."

Killing instead of killing

The plaintiffs said, "We want the death penalty." Hazrat Umar (RA) heard everything and said, "Instead of killing a camel, you should have taken a camel, but you killed an old man. Killing instead of killing. Now you will be sentenced to death. If you have any last wish, you can say it." Young said, "I have some loans and some deposits from others. If you had given me a few days, I would have gone home and paid off the deposits and loans, then returned."

I can't leave you alone like this, remarked Caliph Hazrat Umar (RA). If you can leave someone in charge on your behalf, then I can release you for a while." The young man said, "I have no one here to be my guardian." What do I do  now?"The young man then stood motionless.

At this time, suddenly, a companion present in the Majlis, whose name is Hazrat Abu Dharr Giffari (RA), stood up and said, "I will be the surety of that person." Everyone present in the meeting was shocked by the answer of Companion Hazrat Abu Dharr Giffari (RA). A certain stranger is the surety of a defendant convicted of murder. The Khalifa said, "The young man has been released until Jumma next Friday. If a young man does not come to Madinah before Jummah, Abu Dharr will be executed instead of a young man." After being released, the young man ran miles away towards his home. Abu Dharr Giffari (RA) went to his home.

An innocent companion, Abu Zar Giffari, will be sentenced to death today without guilt.

Jummah came as soon as he saw it. There is no news of the young man's arrival. Hazrat Umar (RA) sent the state courier to Abu Zar Giffari (RA). According to the letter, Abu Dharr Giffari will be executed according to the law if the young man does not come after Friday. May Abu Dharr appear at Masjid an-Nabawi with preparations for Jummah on time. After hearing the news, the entire Madina was stunned. An innocent companion, Abu Dharr Giffari, will be sentenced to death today without guilt.

After Friday, everyone in Madinah appeared in front of the Prophet's Mosque. Tears in everyone's eyes. Because the convicted youth has not yet returned. The hangman is ready.

There is no count of how many people have been executed in life. But today, the executioner can't stop the tears. No one in Madinah can accept that a companion like Abu Dharr will be sentenced to death today without any guilt. Even the Caliph Umar (RA), who ordered the execution, was worried. His heart is heavy. Yet the law will run at its own pace. No one has a hand to change. Abu Dharr (RA) was still ready to die with a smile on his face. The executioner walks slowly towards Abu Dharr (RA) and cries. Today, the feet of the executioner do not move. It is as if someone has tied a stone to their leg.

At that time, one of the companions said to the executioner in a loud voice, "O executioner, stop for a moment. Look who is coming with the dust storm of the desert. Maybe it is the footsteps of the young man's horse. Take a look, then execute Abu Dharr." When the horse is near, it can be seen that this is indeed the young man.

I don't want to stand in front of Allah as a murderer on the Day of Resurrection.

The young man quickly came before the Khalifa and said, "Huzur rudeness will be forgiven. If the horse's leg had not hurt on the road, I could have come on time. I didn't delay a bit in going home. On reaching home, I paid the accumulated deposit and debt. Then my father, mother, and the bride said goodbye, and I left for Madinah, preparing for death. Now release my surety brother and sanctify me with the death sentence. Because I don't want to stand in front of Allah as a murderer on the Day of Resurrection."

Everyone around is absolutely silent. The situation is completely stagnant all around. Everyone is shocked at what is going to happen. The return of the young man surprised everyone.

Caliph Hazrat Umar (RA) said to the young man, "You know you will be sentenced to death, so why do you come back?" In reply, the young man said, "I have returned, so that no one can say that one Muslim came forward to help another Muslim and fell into danger himself."

Now Hazrat Umar (RA) asked Hazrat Abu Dharr Giffari (RA), "Why did you become such a guarantor even though you do not know the truth?" In reply, Hazrat Abu Dharr Giffari (RA) said, "Let no one later say that a Muslim was in danger, but no one came to help him."

Hearing this, suddenly one of the two sons of the old man said, "O Caliph, release him. We have withdrawn the charges against him."

Hazrat Umar (RA) said, Why? One of them said, "Let no one say that a Muslim has committed an unwanted mistake and apologized, but another Muslim has not forgiven him."
